Quotations: The Process Step-by-Step
Generally,
the first question we need to answer is, "Can it be manufactured?" Manufacturability issues include:
- Is the mold too large for us to produce?
- Is the quantity needed large enough to be cost-effective?
- Does it have “undercuts” or die-lock situations that need to
be corrected
As part of the quoting process, you will need to provide certain
information, and answer a series of questions before we can provide an
accurate quote, including:
- Contact Information
- Company Name
- Contact Name
- Phone Number
- Address
- E-mail
Address
- Part Number
- Do you have a database for the part?
- Can you e-mail data base for our review?
- Do you have a set of standards for your mold?
- Do you have a spec sheet for the particular tool quoted? Does it
Include:
a. Type of mold b. Type of steel for cavities and hardness c. Type of steel for mold bases d. Number of cavities required e. Are cams required, or other actions? f. Surface finish required g. Special plating, texturing or coatings required h. Type of plastic material to be molded i. Delivery required: first samples; PPAP approval j. Type and size of molding machine
- Any special considerations for this part or mold?
- Will this be a high or low production mold?
- If data base is not available we will need a part print, or a part
for dimensions and part geometrry
Using this information, the cost to produce the mold is determined.
