a tool that operates consistently for small, complex parts such as this airbag
switch connector. The mold contained a number of thin steel shutoffs, intricate,
delicate areas
that if designed improperly would not perform as required.
Due to complexity of the part, standard steel molds tended to wear out rapidly if not
continuously monitored and maintained on the tool
This was a very
time-consuming and costly process
Our engineers' solution to the problem was a
"Pod Mold" system:
Each 4 cavity mold has 2 sections (pods)
Each pod contains 2 cavities
Each pod is individually replaceable for maintenance or repair
BMJ built 3 sets of pods (6 total)
At least 1 replacement set always available
in reserve
